Standing Up for Your Rights:
A Practical Guide to Getting Accommodations in Schools
Ben Foss: Executive Director, Disability Rights Advocates and Inventor of the Intel(R) Reader
Friday, November 4, 2011, 9 am – 11 am at Exploratorium, San Francisco
This presentation will lay out the five basic steps for securing an accomodation in a school setting. It is intended for kids and parents who are seeking accomodations for specific learning disabilities including dyslexia, ADHD and/or a number of other special ed categories.
As someone who is dyslexic, Ben understands the practical realities families encounter in this process. Topics addressed will include figuring out your strengths, telling your story, understanding the legal landscape, and best practices for talking to administrators about how to get an accomodation.
The talk will provide a high-level overview of the legal issues involved with a practical guide as to how to put these rights into action.
