Ms. Simpson and I received a message this week from Convent alumna Fatimah Simmons ’99 that I’m excited to share with you. Ms. Simmons is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and works with the group’s San Francisco alumni chapter, and she is hoping to get the word out about a great mentoring program that the sorority sponsors called G.E.M.S. Designed for young women aged 14-18, the G.E.M.S program provides mentoring and personal development that forms a road map for college and career planning. Through workshops, activities and field trips, G.E.M.S promotes academic excellence, team building, goal setting and the importance of community service. This year’s program will run from January to May and meet on two Saturdays a month.
